[English readers - Quoted from the designers presentation] Electronic ruler. The idea behind this rules is combining values of a traditional ruler, with advantages of a digital interface. One of this advantages is a dinamic “zero” point which sets in a new position for every measurement and stays there until being reset. The need of calculations is reduced at minimun and the usage becomes fun, simple and practical. Designed by Shay Shafranek.

At first I wanted just wanted to call this over-indulgent and unnecessary. Then after thinking about with some more advanced manufacturing and technology options you might have something. E-paper in a nice shell might do very well here and easily switch between all the major measurement systems (imperial, metric, picas, points, etc).

I think the present digital Vernier can do all these things, in a bit clunkier, at times more practical, package.
